Lomonosov's project

Educational video course in 9 lectures.

“The legacy of Lomonosov exemplified by one Palace of Culture”

The videos mimic the format of the Russian educational platform Arzamas, while introducing a number of conceptual shifts. The course is divided into several thematic blocks devoted to different fields of knowledge in which M. V. Lomonosov worked. In each episode, the lecturer identifies Lomonosov’s actual discoveries and searches for their traces in the existing phenomena of the Lomonosovsky Palace of Culture in a documentary-speculative manner. The figure of the researcher / lecturer — a Lomonosovist — is also constructed speculatively.

Context

At the core of the project was an artistic research of the Lomonosovsky House of Culture in Arkhangelsk, one of many places named after the scientist Lomonosov. He was born in Kholmogory, near Arkhangelsk, and remains an almost sacred figure for the Pomor region. He left in his youth and never returned.

I was interested in working with such an almost mythological figure and in looking at him from another perspective. This was especially challenging in conditions of his overwhelming presence throughout Arkhangelsk.
